2017 Moonlight Classic - Event Overview

The event will be held Saturday night,  July 15, 2017,  beginning at 9:30 PM.

The event will be anchored at the exciting new pub, The Iowa Taproom,  located at 215 E. 3rd Street in the East Village.  The venue features Iowa brews and Iowa food.

The route will be similar to last year's, covering 13 miles and featuring the state capitol, East Village, downtown, Pappajohn Sculpture Garden, Gray's Lake and Water Works Park.

The ride will continue to be a non-competitive format, appealing to both casual and serious riders of all ages and skill level.

There are several free parking spots available.

The Des Moines Police Department will once again be involved in assisting with traffic control throughout the route. The DMPD strengthened their coverage last year, with approximately 30 police officers providing route support and traffic control.

There will be biking course marshals to assist you along the route as well as course volunteers and a water station.  Bike World will provide route support and can be summoned through one of the volunteers.

We will hold "Light Your Bike", "Best Helmet Lights" and "Best Costume" contests.  All registered riders are eligible to participate in the contests and prizes will be awarded to the winners. Contestants must register by 8:30 PM.  Winners will be announced at 8:45 P.M.

The Moonlight Cup trophy and a group prize will be presented to the largest registered team. Registration for this competition closes at 11:59 PM on July 14th.

A live band, Boomerang, will perform before and after the ride.
