With the help of nearly 600 cyclists, 100+ volunteers and dozens of corporate sponsors, Orchard Place set a new record by raising over $110,000 to fund Orchard Place services for children with emotional and behavioral challenges.
The 13-mile evening ride has become a summer hit with cyclists, with a mixture of new and repeat bikers. Contests including costume, bike, and helmet lighting competitions, kicked off the event that began and ended at the Iowa Taproom.
In addition to sponsoring the event, Sammons Financial Group took home the Moonlight Cup for registering the biggest team, -- 145 cyclists -- for the event.
"It was a beautiful night for another great Moonlight Classic! The weather, pre-ride and post-ride celebrations and outstanding sponsors made for a fantastic Moonlight Classic," said Brandie Broadhead, Director of Volunteers and Special Events. "Our riders, sponsors and volunteers take pride in this event and our cause of helping Iowa kids with mental and behavioral health challenges."
To date, the Orchard Place Moonlight Classic has raised more than $600,000 for services targeting Iowa kids. Funds from this event fund Orchard Place Summer School for all 88 kids with severe emotional disorders who reside at Orchard Place Campus. Funds will also benefit other Orchard Place programs and services that will serve nearly 10,000 children this year. Thank you to everyone who supported this event that does so much for Orchard Place kids!
